  Community Training

Implementation of the program will start off with a one-day training session with selected RA’s to facilitate their understanding and perception on river basin management, problems, issues and impacts in Malaysia. The dependency on one particular party in managing a river basin and lack of awareness, knowledge and skills in communities are the likely reasons on why river pollution is such a big issue in Malaysia. This training will provide an overview/concept of integrated river basin management and will involve practical field training that exposes communities to the real situation at hand, and teaches them how to monitor water quality using 3 different methods: physical, chemical and biological indicators. The one-day training session is expected to enhance community awareness on water and river issues and educate them on how to be the eyes and ears of their local river.

GAB Foundation W.A.T.E.R Community Training which has taken place recently on the 24th August at Menara MBPJ was a successful event. The training was officiated by the Secretary General of Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Yng Bhg Datuk Suboh Bin Md Yassin. The one day training workshop received a very warm welcome by relevant stakeholders. Presence on that day are Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Selangor (JPS), Jabatan Alam Sekitar Selangor (JAS), Jabatan Perpaduan Negara dan Intigrasi Nasional Petaling, Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS), Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ), GAB Foundation, Global Environment Centre (GEC), Rukun Tetangga SS3, Desa Mentari, Desa Ria and Persatuan Penduduk SS3 Petaling Jaya.

Each of the participants participated and completed the whole day training with near real scientist experience. They were exposed to both, indoor and outdoor training. Detail of the activities took place during the workshop training can be viewed in the photo gallery section.
