  2014 Business COmmunity Approach

in 2014, 3 Education Programme with MRCU  was carried out focusing on Water Quality Monitoring, Biological Monitoring, Garbage Enzyme, Compost, soap and candle making from used cooking oil. The education cum demonstration programme although targeted for the business group also managed to hold the interest of public at the food court. The MRCU and SMART Ranger Outreach were conducted at:

  • MRCU and SMART Ranger Exhibition and Outreach at MBI Stadium Food court on 25th January 2014
  • MRCU and SMART Ranger Exhibition and Outreach at First Corner Food Court on 26th January 2014
  • MRCU at Tmn Rishah with the Police Community on 15th March 2014

The outreach for the business group in total covered around 60-70 stalls within the Medan Selera food court and First Corner Food Court as well as within 100 – 150 publics through the outreach at the food courts and Taman Rishah Police Community Event.

The business owners/stall workers at MBI Stadium Food Court were keen on the soap and candle from the used cooking oil whereas the business operators at the First Corner Food Court were more interested with garbage enzyme and composting. The MBI Stadium food courts interest on the soap and candle from used cooking oil can be due to their food uses more oil for frying food  and discharged as waste, The First Corner Food court was seen discharging more fruits and vegetable peels and this seems to attract the operators on the compost and garbage enzyme. As for the public, especially kids they were excited and interested into the water monitoring and bio indicators.

In addition a  workshop on Oil and Grease Trap Installation and Maintainance was conducted on 30th May 2014. The workshop focuses on the installation processes followed with the maintainance of Oil and Grease Trap.
