Sungai Kinta W.A.T.E.R Project aims to address the pollution issues and to engage the targeted communities along the industries, schools and residents of selected tributaries of Kinta River. The three tributaries selected out of 8 tributaries are Sungai Senam, Sungai Kledang and Sungai Buntong due to their location that is near to the Ipoh town and their direct contribution as the pollution source to the Sg. Kinta.
Sg Senam, Sg Kledang and Sg Buntong are tributaries running through several important towns in Ipoh such as Menglembu and Buntong. Located in towns concentrated with residents, commercial activities and industrial activities, these tributaries were found to experience vast changes in terms of river healthiness, ecological services and aesthetic value. Declination of river water quality have consequences for how we utilize our freshwater resources, whether it’s for drinking, stock watering, food harvesting, or recreational activities and for their aesthetic qualities as well as ecological functioning. Therefore, these 3 tributaries are in need of river conservation and rehabilitation.
GEC is hence now focusing on Sg Senam, Sg Kledang and Sg Buntong as our target river. Action which will be taken to improve river water quality can be found in ACTION PLAN.
